FAQ
In this section you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions
How can I check the installation site connectivity?
To connect the cable designated to the router to a PC, with the same router configuration.
To ping an always reachable host (eg Google DNS 8.8.8.8):
From Windows toolbar, click Start and type cmd.
From Command Prompt type (like the following example): ping 8.8.8.8 + Enter.
You will see a message similar to: “Pinging with 32 bytes of data”.
If the path works correctly, a message similar to the following one will appear: “Reply from: 8.8.8.8 bytes = 32 duration = xx ms TTL = xxx”.
If the answer will be: "Request timed out", contact the network administrator.

IP network used in the automation plant is identical to IP network used in the installation site
The primary purpose of the Sevio Router is network segmentation, thanks to its firewall the router isolates the networks, avoiding any IP conflict.
I have Internet connectivity in the installation site network, but the “i” led on the router does not light-up
There may be several aspects to evaluate, we recommend to share with the network administrator the Internet Connection Requirements file, downloadable from the download area, so to receive information on the network specifications and requirements.
The router is online on Sevio Portal, but I cannot reach a remote hardware device
Check the VPN is active (for its configuration please refer to the Control Stations manual in the download area).
Check the LAN address assigned to the router has the same IP network, with the last octet different from all automation devices.
Check the masquerade feature is active (hardware reachable even if without default-gateway)
Ping the hardware currently in analysis:
From the Windows toolbar, click Start and type cmd. From Command Prompt type, as in the following example: “ping 10.255.254.X” (10.255.254 is a Sevio network and X is the last octet of the hardware in analysis) + enter. You will see a message similar to this: Pinging with 32 bytes of data. If the path works correctly, this message will appear: “Reply from: 10.255.254.X bytes = 32 duration = xx ms TTL = xxx”. In the automation application, enter the verified IP address in the communication settings (please refer to manuals in the download area).

Is it possible to manage and monitor systems with multiple control stations at the same time?
Of course, if all workstations belongs to a single user:
Once logged into Sevio Portal, from the personal area, select Stations - add workstation - define a name, a new username will be generated, which will be used to configure the VPN on the new Control Station. If necessary, it will be possible to repeat the same operation to create an additional workstation (available also for tablets and smartphones).
If operating for a colleague's workstation: once logged into Sevio Portal, from the personal area, select Operators, Invite operator, select the role and enter the designated email. Once credentials have been received, configure the VPN client in the desired station(s). For further information please refer to General Manual or Control Stations.

Is it possible to invite an external System Integrator for specific plant support need?
Of course, Sevio System administrator for a specific realm can invite other operators with his own "Admin" credentials (colleagues, internal technicians, internal service operators), they will have view permissions of all systems. It is also possible to invite an external operator as an "User" , by default this operator will not have access to any system, until the Firewall of the specific one will be enabled. Only starting from that moment he will be able to reach-out the automation network and once technical support is finished, by accessing the Firewall again, it will be possible to disable his access or even delete the user. For further information please refer to the General Manual.
I am a programmer and I would like to connect my PC to the automation network during testing
We recommend to use the “Basic” model, with Wi-Fi configured in Access Point mode.
Make sure that the LAN DHCP Server is enabled in Sevio Portal, connect the PC to the SSID managed by the router. Sevio Router will assign a suitable IP address to the automation network, from this moment the PC will be able to communicate locally, with all the automation systems.
Furthermore, if the Sevio Router is online, the entire LAN network will also have Internet connectivity (setting configurable from Sevio Portal).

I need to start-up a plant located in China, are there any problem connecting the router?
We recommend to share with network administrator the Internet Connection Requirements file, which can be downloaded from the download area, to receive information on network specifications.
By accessing Sevio Portal, in the Data section of the router, set the address of the Chinese installation site (specifying China will be enough), in case of specific restrictions, the router will connect via the Sevio infrastructure located in China.

Can I let two hardware connected to two geographically-distant routers communicate?
Of course, it is possible to manage routing between different Sevio LAN routers, with the assumption that they belongs to the same Realm. For further information, please refer to General Manual looking at the dedicated section.
